I analyze my gel or western blot image with ImageJ. It has all the functions I need, and it is free of charge. Why should I pay money for software?
LabImage is way easier and snappier to use than ImageJ using the gel quantification analysis plugin: it elegantly guides you through all steps of image analysis, and it provides automated lane and band
detection, as well as a variety of automatic background subtraction methods. No more manual drawing of background lines.
The width of lanes and bands can easily be adjusted manually, and the Undo-function lets you easily go back if you made a mistake.
LabImage 1D also has a lot more functions than ImageJ: there is Rf-correction (if your gels do not run evenly), exporting and significant reports.
If your budget is limited: the basic version of LabImage L300 is just at the price of an antibody vial but will last longer.
